Y Tywyddiadur

Prif nodwedd y gronfa hon yw'r dyddiad, mis neu'r flwyddyn penodol sydd yn sail i'ch cofnod. Mae'r tywydd wrth gwrs yn rhywbeth sydd yn digwydd "rwan", pryd bynnag yw neu oedd "rwan" i'r cofnodwr gwreiddiol; y bore yma efallai, diwrnod arbennig yn eich plentyndod, neu sylw mewn dyddiadur dwy ganrif yn ôl yn sir Feirionnydd.... efallai. Neu efallai bod cysylltiad y sylw a'r tywydd yn ymddangosiadol wan iawn: tylluan wen yn hela am dri o'r gloch y prynhawn ar ddyddiad arbennig o Chwefror; clywed y gog yn canu ddiwedd mis Mawrth; teilo cae at datws ddechrau’r gwanwyn. Tywydd....? efallai! Ffenoleg...? yn bendant.

Mae'r Tywyddiadur yn rhyngweithiol - hynny yw, mi allwch rhoi gwybodaeth i fewn iddo, neu chael gwybodaeth allan. Y cam cyntaf y byddwch yn cymryd wrth fentro ar y dudalen hon felly fydd dewis pa un rydych am ei wneud.... Chwilio ynteu Mewnbynnu (blychod chwilio ar y chwith mewn glas, blychod mewnbynnu ar y dde mewn coch).

(Ewch i’r gwaelod am ganllawiau cychwynnol).

CHWILIO: Chi biau’r dewis: mis neu gyfnod arbennig efallai, blwyddyn, gair (neu ddau air), neu ddiwrnod penodol (treiwch ddyddiad eich pen-blwydd). Cewch wneud cyfuniad o rhain.

MEWNBYNNU: Trwy fewnbynnu cewch ychwanegu at y gronfa a chreu adnodd mwy cynhwysfawr fyth i ymchwilwyr fel chi. Dim ond tri amod sydd ar eich cofnod: ei fod yn cynnwys rhyw fath o ddyddiad, lleoliad (bras neu fanwl), a bod y cofnod rhywfodd yn gysylltiedig â’r amgylchedd.

LLANDEWI`R-CWM. SOMETHING TO BE SAID FOR LLANDEWI.— The parish of Llandewi`r-Cwm has held the reputation of being one of the "earliest" places in Mid-Wales, and this reputation has been confirmed this season, a farmer in the parish having cut a field of grain on the 1st instant [1 Awst]. It was always said in Builth that the cuckoo sings at Llandewi`r-Cwm a week before it is heard anywhere in the district, and a special effort was made to test this statement spring, with the result that the cuckoo was heard singing near Llandewi`r-Cwm bridge, in the valley of the [Dunhcawy], nine days before it was beard at Builth.

A glorious day. Sunny and warm. Alice and I hear the Cuckoo from our front garden. This is the first time for us and save for a [....] pocket neither of us have a coin much to our annoyance. We have a most enjoyable picnic at Castell again and afterwards walk through the Keepers Wood when we meet Edward & Edwin. Long tailed tits. The Ash trees are very backward only a very backward only a very few beginning to show leaf. Burnet roses in bloom. George finds Darby the tortoise in the centre of a patch of aubretia in the in the front garden

Rain during the night or very early morning.Glass rising slightly and clears to a fine day with westerly (WNW] wind. Bathing find the water still very [tanlinellwyd] cold. 8 a.m. Walking on the promenade see a large flock of gulls opposite the Hydro. I notice the Black Headed gulls have come back from their breeding grounds and with their black heads..... Meet RW Jones on the prom in the evening. He tells me that some years ago he heard the Cuckoo so late as June 30th. Asks me to keep a note when last heard - is very interested to hear. I saw the Great Northern Diver in the Bay last March 26th.

Oxfordshire, England
Wartime Country Diaries, ed. Martin Wainwright, Guardian Books 2007

Wildlife and war : May 1915

The stonechat has already been seen twice in this part of Oxfordshire, though we have  little land suitable for it and it has only once been recorded as breeding here. We should look out also for the wheatear, a bird confined as a rule to a higher slopes, and even then seen only occasionally.

I must thank Oxoniensis for his note on the cuckoo. from him I learn that north-east Oxon heard it three days before north west ie as early as Saturday, April 24.

Llais Llafur 20 Mai 1916 Cuckoo Near the Firing Line. Corporal T. H. Davies, of Deri, who is in France, writing under date of the 6th inst., says :—"We have had a warm time of it throughout Easter, and are glad of a spell for a few days. The little rest we had was in supports behind the firing line. When we arrived here (after a leave) we hardly knew the place, it was so changed from the winter months. Honeysuckle, lilac, and wild roses are all beginning to bloom, and the hops are starting to climb the wires. During a heavy shelling early Good Friday morning [21 Ebrill: Wolfram Alpha] I both heard and saw the cuckoo within 20 yards of the firing lines. Also that night I heard the nightingale, and the different birds were very busy through it all, some hatching their eggs and others re-building their nests. Here and there amongst them would come crashing down a massive oak or elm tree in full foliage. What a contrast to the dead and the dying being carried through the communication trench which runs along the same wood. The Canadians are alongside us, and rare fine chaps they are - all tryers and to see some of them stripped to the waist in the sun working the trench mortars was a sight long to be remembered

Joan Abse: Letters from Wales (Seren 2000)
I can`t do purple patches well, but Merioneth now is nothing but bright sun and misty mountains and hazy seas and sloe blossoms [DRAENEN DDU] and wild cherry and grey rocks and young green grass. I am writing in my small, white-walled cottage of which I must have told you - the one that once belonged to a consumptive coachman, then to a drunken carpenter, then became a brothel, then a Sunday school and now serves as pleasaunce for me and my two sisters....There is a peculiar cuckoo in the woods just outside with a bad stammer. It says cu-cuckoo and sometimes even cu-cu-cuckoo. I must tell the Spectator about it.... In Broken Images: Selected Letters of Robert Graves 1914-1946, ed. Paul O`Prey (London: Hutchinson, 1982).

The peculiar weather that we are now experiencing is responsible for many freaks. A fortnight ago a correspondent, informed us that the cuckoo had been heard at Ystalyfera. I was at Craig-y-Nos recently, and it is a fact that quite a number of beautiful rose" are in full bloom. Is this because we have not yet experienced a cold "nip."
